Jacquese’s work has appeared in GFT, For Harriet, Black Magnolias Literary Journal, SZ, Linden Avenue Literary Journal, Blackberry: A Magazine, Anchor Magazine & Other Publications. Michael has worked for over eight years in the mental health and addictions field and has been a tremendous inspiration to many of his peers. Zach finds purpose, appreciation and acceptance in his lived experience of mental illness through the act of helping others with similar experiences, and in so doing, also works to eradicate the stigma. Hear from this panel of experts about how they manage daily hurdles, while accomplishing life goals, and helping others along the recovery path. Additionally, hear feedback about the difference between effective vs. ineffective communication from family members who have supported them as they’ve experienced remarkable achievements. Recovery is Possible!

Also, receive tips on maintaining medical insurance, and information about available vocational supports to help you sustain employment once secured.

“Substance Use Disorders: Stigma, Treatment & Relapse Prevention”

Science has proven that substance use disorder is a chronic brain disease that can be managed with medical treatment. However, only 1 in 10 Americans with a substance use disorder receive treatment. Addiction is highly stigmatized, and this stigma appears to be driving a current public health crisis. Psychotherapy alone has not been proven effective with substance use disorders, and specifically for opioid use disorders, relapse rates are incredibly high. This speaker is dedicated to reducing the devastation the disease of addiction causes individuals and families, and will share information on reducing the stigma associated with addiction, discuss treatment options, including Medication Assisted Treatments (MAT), and strategies to help prevent a relapse.

New Jersey Turnpike (Exit 9 coming from South) Turn off at Exit 9 (New Brunswick). Follow Route 18 North toward New Brunswick and Piscataway. Cross over the John Lynch Bridge to the River Rd./Highland Park exit (jug handle) and make a right onto River Road (you will be heading away from Highland Park). About 2 miles down on River Road make a right turn at 2nd light, which is Johnson Dr./Hoes Lane West. Continue about ½ mile to Rutgers UBHC campus.*

At Exit #9, turn left on River Road and proceed to fourth light, Johnson Dr./Hoes Lane West, and turn left. Continue about ½ mile to Rutgers UBHC campus.*
